Run...

Clicking Run starts a measurement in which the device under test will be exposed to the beam of ions. Prior to exposure, the quality of the beam and the positioning setup is checked by the software and user response is requested whenever appropriate. A prompt to start the run indicates the end of the pre-run diagnostics. When the beam exposure starts, the Stop button becomes visible. Clicking Stop will suspend the run. Otherwise, the run will be suspended when one of the preset values (entered using Set Run Parameters) is met. When the run becomes suspended, the user will have an option to end it or to continue until Stop is clicked. Note that the presets do not apply if the run is resumend after being suspended.

During the run, the box that is normally used to display the axial gain is then used to display the accumulated dose, while the box that is normally used to display the one-second-interval counts from the central ion detector is used to display the accumulated effective fluence. Message in the status bar will display information relevant to the run and its progress, while the preset status will be displayed below it.

If the cursor is in the small box below the static text "Status:", the run can be suspended by hitting any character key on the keyboard.
